حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، نَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ;

✧ The Prophet ﷺ was brought a man who had drunk wine, and he flogged him with two palm branches about forty times. Abu Bakr did the same. When 'Umar came, he consulted the people, and ‘Abd al-Rahman b. ‘Awf said, 'The lightest of the prescribed punishments is eighty,' so 'Umar ordered that.
