✧ Ali was asked about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ – the voluntary prayer during the day. He said: And who can do that? He said: We can do what we are able. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when the sun was here, at the height it is at Asr, would pray two rak'ahs, offering salutation in them upon the angels brought near, the prophets, the messengers, and whoever followed them among the believers and Muslims. Then when the forenoon rose and the sun was here as it is here at Zuhr, he would pray four, separating between them with a salutation upon the angels brought near, the believers, the messengers, and whoever followed them among the believers and messengers. Then when the sun declined, he would pray four before Zuhr, and pray two after Zuhr, doing the same in them, and four before Asr, doing the same in them, separating between every two rak'ahs with a salutation upon the angels brought near, the prophets, the messengers, and whoever followed them among the believers and Muslims.
