✧ I was brought al-Buraq, and it is a white riding beast, taller than a donkey and shorter than a mule. It places its hoof at the limit of its sight. He said: I mounted it and it carried me until I came to the gate of Jerusalem. I tied the beast to the ring to which the prophets tie it. He said: Then I entered the mosque and prayed two units in it, then I came out. Then Jibril ﷺ came to me with a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk, and I chose the milk. Jibril said: You have chosen the natural disposition. Then he ascended with us to the lowest heaven, and Jibril ﷺ sought permission to enter. It was said: Who are you? He said: I am Jibril. It was said: And who is with you? He said: Muhammad. He said: Has he been sent to? He said: He has been sent to. He said: So it was opened for us, and behold, I saw Adam. He welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then he ascended with us to the second heaven, and Jibril sought permission. It was said: Who are you? He said: I am Jibril. It was said: And who is with you? He said: Muhammad. He said: Has he been sent to? He said: He has been sent to. He said: So it was opened for us, and behold, I saw the two maternal cousins, Isa and Yahya. They welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then he ascended with us to the third heaven, and Jibril sought permission. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: And who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent to? He said: He has been sent to. So it was opened for us, and behold, I saw Yusuf, and indeed he had been given half of all beauty. He welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then he ascended with us to the fourth, and Jibril sought permission. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: And who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent to? He said: He has been sent to. He said: So it was opened for us, and behold, I saw Idris. He welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then he said: Allah, Blessed and Exalted, says: "And We raised him to a high station" (19:57). He said: Then he ascended with us to the fifth heaven, and Jibril sought permission. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: And who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent to? He said: He has been sent to. He said: So it was opened for us, and behold, I saw Harun. He welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then he ascended with us to the sixth heaven, and Jibril sought permission. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: And who is with you? He said: Muhammad ﷺ. It was said: Has he been sent to? He said: He has been sent to. So it was opened for us, and behold, I saw Musa ﷺ. He welcomed me and prayed for good. Then he ascended with us to the seventh heaven, and Jibril sought permission. It was said: Who are you? He said: Jibril. It was said: And who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent to? He said: He has been sent to. So it was opened for us, and behold, I saw Ibrahim ﷺ, and he was leaning against the Much-Frequented House. He welcomed me and prayed for good for me. And indeed, seventy thousand angels enter it—meaning the Much-Frequented House—and then they do not return to it. Then he took me to the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, and its leaves were like the ears of elephants, and its fruits were like large jars. When it was covered by what covered it of the command of Allah, it changed, and no one of Allah's creation could describe it because of its beauty. Then He revealed to me what He revealed, and He obligated upon me fifty prayers every day and night. I descended until I came to Musa, and he said: What has your Lord obligated upon your community? I said: Fifty prayers every day and night. He said: Return to your Lord and ask Him for reduction, for your community will not be able to bear that. I tested the Children of Israel and came to know them. He said: So I returned to my Lord, Blessed and Exalted, and said: O Lord, lighten for my community. So He reduced five from me. He said: Then I returned to Musa, and he said: What did you do? I said: He reduced five from me. He said: Your community will not be able to bear that, so return to your Lord and ask Him for reduction for your community. I kept going back between my Lord and Musa, and He reduced five each time, until He said: O Muhammad, they are five prayers every day and night, each prayer counting as ten, so that is fifty prayers. Whoever intends a good deed but does not do it, a good deed is written for him; if he does it, ten are written for him. Whoever intends an evil deed but does not do it, nothing is written; if he does it, one evil deed is written. He said: I descended until I came to Musa ﷺ and told him that. He said: Return to your Lord and ask Him for reduction. I said: I have returned to my Lord until I felt ashamed.
