حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ، نَا أَبِي، نَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ; أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ:

لَا يَتَمَنَّ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ لِضُرٍّ نَزَلَ بِهِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلًا فَلْيَقُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنَا إِذَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لَنَا، وَتَوَفَّنَا إِذَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لَنَا

Translation

✧ None of you should wish for death because of some harm that has befallen him. But if he must do something, let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and take my soul when death is better for me.
