حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، نَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، نَا مُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ:
دَخَلَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ عَلَى حَصِيرٍ قَدْ أَثَّرَ بِجَنْبِهِ الْحَصِيرُ، فَدَمَعَتْ عَيْنَا عُمَرَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَا يُبْكِيكَ يَا عُمَرُ ؟ قَالَ: ذَكَرْتُ كِسْرَى وَقَيْصَرَ، قَالَ: أَلَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ لَهُمُ الدُّنْيَا وَلَنَا الْآخِرَةُ ؟

✧ 'Umar b. al-Khattab entered upon the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was on a reed mat, and the mat had left marks on his side. 'Umar's eyes filled with tears, so the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "What makes you weep, O 'Umar?" He said: "I remembered Chosroes and Caesar." He said: "Would you not be content that they have this world and we have the Hereafter?"
