machine translationAbū al-Jawāb made a mistake in this ḥadīth in narrating it from al-Thawrī. Rather, the memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) such as ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and others narrated it from Sufyān, from ʿĀṣim, from Sālim, from his father, that ʿUmar was shrouded in three garments.

machine translationʿĀṣim b. ʿUbaydullāh narrates it from Sālim, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ. al-Ṣāghānī narrated it from him in this way. Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān narrated it from al-Thawrī, from ʿĀṣim, from Sālim, from his father: "ʿUmar was shrouded in three garments," and this is the correct version.
