✧ I saw by the Kaʿbah a dark-complexioned man with lank hair, placing his hands on two men while water was being poured on his head—or dripping. I asked, 'Who is this?' It was said, 'ʿĪsā b. Maryam,' or 'the Messiah b. Maryam.' Ḥanẓalah said: 'I do not know which of the two it was.' He said: 'And I saw behind him a red-complexioned man with curly hair, blind in the left eye, the closest person I have seen resembling him is Ibn Qaṭan—meaning ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. Qaṭan. I asked, "Who is this?" They said, "The false Messiah."'
