وَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ اللَّيْثِ، نَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ، عَنْ شَيْبَانَ، عَنْ فِرَاسٍ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ:

كَانَ مَسْجِدُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ جُذُوعِ النَّخْلِ، فَخَرِبَ فِي زَمَنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَبَنَاهُ مِنْ جُذُوعِ النَّخْلِ وَجَرِيدٍ، ثُمَّ خَرِبَ فِي زَمَنِ عُمَرَ، فَبَنَاهُ مِنْ جُذُوعِ النَّخْلِ وَجَرِيدٍ، ثُمَّ خَرِبَ فِي خِلَافَةِ عُثْمَانَ، فَبَنَاهُ بِالْآجُرِّ، فَلَمَّا يَزُلْ بِنَاؤُهُ إِلَى السَّاعَةِ

Translation

✧ The mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was made of palm trunks. It fell into ruin in the time of Abu Bakr, so he rebuilt it with palm trunks and stripped palm branches. Then it fell into ruin in the time of 'Umar, so he rebuilt it with palm trunks and stripped palm branches. Then it fell into ruin in the caliphate of 'Uthman, so he rebuilt it with baked bricks, and its construction has not ceased until now.
