حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ آدَمَ، يَعْنِي ابْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ:

نَزَلَتْ: وَإِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللهُ، قَالَ: فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَالُوا: فَأَيُّنَا لَا يُحَدِّثُ نَفْسَهُ، فَنَزَلَتْ: لا يُكَلِّفُ اللهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَا، وَالْآيَتَانِ بَعْدَهَا

Translation

✧ It was revealed: “And whether you disclose what is in yourselves or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it.” He said: That distressed them. They said: Which of us does not speak to himself? Then it was revealed: “Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity,” and the two verses after it.
