✧ A man reviled an ancestor of al-'Abbās from the time of ignorance, so al-'Abbās slapped him. His people came and said: By God, we will surely slap him as he slapped him, until they took up weapons, or until they put on weapons. That reached the Messenger of God ﷺ, so he ascended the pulpit and said: O people, which of the people of the earth do you know to be most honored before God? They said: You. He said: Indeed al-'Abbās is of me and I am of him. Do not revile our dead, lest you harm our living. Then the people came and said: O Messenger of God, we seek refuge in God from your anger, so ask forgiveness for us.
