حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَزِيعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَسَارٍ. وَحَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالُوا: حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ - ﷺ قَالَ:

" لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ، وَلَأَخَّرْتُ الْعِشَاءَ الْآخِرَةَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ، فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا مَضَى ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلُ هَبَطَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى إِلَى سَمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ هُنَالِكَ حَتَّى يَطْلُعَ الْفَجْرُ، يَقُولُ: أَلَا سَائِلٌ فَيُعْطَى، أَلَا دَاعٍ يُجَابُ، أَلَا مُسْتَشْفِعٌ فَيُشَفَّعَ، أَلَا تَائِبٌ مُسْتَغْفِرٌ فَيُغْفَرَ لَهُ

✧ Were it not that I would make things difficult for my community, I would have commanded them to use the tooth-stick at every prayer, and I would have delayed the last evening prayer until a third of the night had passed. For when the first third of the night has passed, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, descends to the lowest heaven and remains there until dawn breaks, saying: 'Is there any who asks, that he may be given? Is there any who supplicates, that he may be answered? Is there any seeking intercession, that he may be granted it? Is there any penitent seeking forgiveness, that he may be forgiven?'
