✧ The Prophet of Allah, Sulaymān, when he stood to pray, would see a tree growing before him and say to it: What is your name? It would say: Such-and-such. He would say: For what purpose are you? It would say: For such-and-such. If it was for a remedy, it was recorded; and if it was for planting, it was planted. While he was praying one day, a tree grew before him, and he said to it: What is your name? It said: The carob tree. He said: For what purpose are you? It said: For the ruin of this house. Sulaymān said: O Allah, make my death unknown to the jinn, so that mankind may know that the jinn do not know the unseen. He took his staff and leaned upon it, and he died while the jinn were working. Termites ate it within a year, and he fell. Then 'the jinn realized that if they had known the unseen, they would not have remained in humiliating torment' [for a year]. Ibn ʿAbbās used to recite it in that way. He said: So the jinn thanked the termites, and they used to bring it water.
