machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of Abū al-Aḥwaṣ from ʿAbdullāh, "The Prophet was..." He said: Abū Farwah Muslim b. Sālim al-Juhanī narrates it from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, and there is disagreement about him. ʿImrān b. ʿUyaynah, ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ajlaḥ, Misʿar, Sulaymān al-Taymī, ʿAmr b. Abī Qays, Ḥamzah al-Zayyāt and Muḥammad b. Jābir narrated it from Abū Farwah, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, from ʿAbdullāh, with a connected chain (muttaṣil). Likewise Ḥajjāj b. Nuṣayr said, from Shuʿbah, from Abū Isḥāq, from Abū Farwah. Shuʿbah said: I met Abū Farwah and he narrated it to me. But the companions of Shuʿbah (Ghundar, Muʿādh, Ibn Mahdī and others) contradicted him, and narrated it from Shuʿbah, from Abū Farwah, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, as a mursal report. Likewise al-Thawrī, Zuhayr and Zāʾidah narrated it from Abū Farwah, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, as mursal. Likewise Ibn ʿUyaynah, Sufyān, said it as mursal, and it was said from him that it was connected. Ḥammād b. Shuʿayb narrated it from Abū Farwah, from Saʿīd b. Jubayr, from ʿAbbās, and he erred in it. The correct one is mursal. It was said: I heard the hadith of Ḥajjāj b. Nuṣayr from Ibn Mukhlad, for he used to narrate it from Ḥammād b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAnbasah from him; he said: Ibn Ṣāʿid narrated it to us from Ḥammād b. al-Ḥasan. I said: Did ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Mahdī not say in his hadith from Shuʿbah and Sufyān, "and he is not the Juhanī"? He said: I do not know him. Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī also narrated this hadith from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, and there is disagreement about him. Muḥammad b. ʿUbaydullāh al-ʿArzamī narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, from ʿAbdullāh. ʿAmr b. Qays al-Mulāʾī, Maysarah b. Ḥabīb al-Nahdī and Sharīk narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from Abū Farwah, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, as mursal. Shuʿbah narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from Abū Farwah, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, from ʿAbdullāh; Ḥajjāj b. Nuṣayr said it from him, and it has been mentioned before. Ḥamzah al-Zayyāt said, from Abū Isḥāq, from Muslim al-Baṭīn, from Saʿīd b. Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās. Sharīk said, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, from Saʿīd b. Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās. The hadith of Saʿīd b. Jubayr is preserved (maḥfūẓ), and as for the hadith of Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, the correct view regarding it is the view of those who narrated it as mursal.
