✧ I said to Ibn 'Abbas: 'Your people claim that the Prophet ﷺ walked briskly and that it is a sunnah.' He said: 'They have lied and they have spoken truth. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did walk briskly, but it is not a sunnah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived while the polytheists were on Mount Qu'ayqi'an. It reached him that they were saying: There is weakness in the Messenger of Allah and his companions. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ walked briskly and ordered his companions to walk briskly so that the polytheists would see that they had strength.'
