✧ I was present with Uthman on the day he was besieged, and the people were in the area of the funerals. If a pebble had been thrown, it would not have fallen except on a man's head. He said: I saw Uthman look out from the small door that is next to the Station of Jibril ﷺ and say: 'Is Talhah among you?' They remained silent. He said: 'Is Talhah among you?' They remained silent. He said: 'Is Talhah among you?' They remained silent three times. Then Uthman said: 'I never thought you would be in a group that hears my call three times and does not answer me.' He said: 'I adjure you by Allah, O Talhah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at such-and-such a place, and I and you were with him, no one else but me and you, and he said to you: O Talhah, every prophet has a companion from his nation in Paradise, and this Uthman is my companion in Paradise?' He said: 'O Allah, yes.' Then he turned away from him.
