✧ What 'Abdullah b. 'Amr narrated from Abu Bakr

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ: نَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، قَالَ: نَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ: عَلِّمْنِي دُعَاءً أَدْعُو بِهِ قَالَ: قُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ فَاغْفِرْ لِي [ مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ ] وَارْحَمْنِي، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

✧ I said: O Messenger of Allah, teach me a supplication to call upon Allah with. He said: "Say: O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins but You, so forgive me with a forgiveness from You, and have mercy on me. Indeed, You are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful."
