حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ بِشْرِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُعَافَى بْنُ عِمْرَانَ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ ؓ قَالَ:
عَادَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَأَنَا مَرِيضٌ فِي أُنَاسٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ: هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَنِ الشَّهِيدُ ؟ فَسَكَتُوا، فَقُلْتُ: لِامْرَأَتِي أَسْنِدِينِي فَأَسْنَدَتْنِي، فَقُلْتُ: الشَّهِيدُ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ، ثُمَّ هَاجَرَ، ثُمَّ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ، الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ شَهَادَةٌ، وَالْبَطْنُ شَهَادَةٌ، وَالْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ، وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited me while I was ill, along with some of the Ansar. He said: “Do you know who the martyr is?” They remained silent, so I said to my wife: “Support me.” She supported me, and I said: “The martyr is the one who embraces Islam, then emigrates, then is killed in the path of Allah – he is a martyr.” He said: “Then the martyrs of my community would be few. Being killed in the path of Allah is martyrdom, stomach disease is martyrdom, drowning is martyrdom, and a woman dying in childbirth is martyrdom.”
