✧ Whoever among you prays at night should recite aloud, for the angels pray with his prayer and listen to his recitation. The believing jinn who are in the air, and his neighbors in his dwelling, pray with his prayer and listen to his recitation. And by his loud recitation he drives away from his house and from the houses around him the wicked jinn and the rebellious devils. The house in which the Quran is recited has over it a tent of light by which the people of heaven are guided, just as they are guided by a brilliant star in the depths of the seas and in the desolate land. When the companion of the Quran dies, that tent is lifted, and the angels look from heaven and no longer see that light, so the angels announce his death from heaven to heaven, and the angels pray over his soul among the souls. Then the angels meet the two guardian angels who were with him, and they seek forgiveness for him until the day he is resurrected. There is no man who learns the Book of Allah and then prays for a portion of the night but that the past night entrusts the coming night to wake him at that hour and to be light upon him. When he dies and his family is preparing his body, the Quran comes in a beautiful and comely form, standing at his head until he is wrapped in his shrouds, and the Quran is upon his chest rather than the shroud. When he is placed in his grave and the earth is leveled over him and his companions depart, Munkar and Nakir come to him and sit him up in his grave. The Quran comes until it is between him and them. They say to it: 'Move aside so we may question him.' It says: 'No, by the Lord of the Kaaba, he is my companion and my close friend, and I will not abandon him in any state. If you two have been commanded something, then proceed with what you were commanded and leave me in my place, for I will not part from him until I enter him into Paradise, if Allah wills.' Then the Quran looks at its companion and says to him: 'Rest, for you will find me a true neighbor among neighbors, a true friend among friends, and a true companion among companions.' He says to it: 'Who are you?' It says: 'I am the Quran which you used to recite aloud and in secret, and you loved me. I am your beloved, and whoever loves me, Allah loves him. After the questioning of Munkar and Nakir, there is no distress, worry, or grief upon you.' Munkar and Nakir ask him and then ascend, and he and the Quran remain. It says: 'I will spread for you a soft bed and cover you with a fine and beautiful covering as a reward for your staying awake at night and toiling by day.' Then the Quran ascends to heaven faster than the blink of an eye and asks Allah for that for him, and Allah grants it to him. Then a million of the angels brought near of the sixth heaven descend with it, and the Quran comes and says: 'Have you felt lonely? Since I parted from you, I have not ceased speaking to Allah, Blessed and Exalted, until I obtained for you a bed, a covering, and a lamp. I have brought them to you, so rise so the angels may spread them for you.' The angels raise him gently, and his grave is widened for him a distance of four hundred years. Then a bed is placed for him whose lining is green silk and whose filling is musk and sweet rush. Cushions of fine silk and brocade are placed at his feet and head, and two lamps from the light of Paradise are lit at his head and feet, shining until the Day of Resurrection. Then the angels lay him on his right side facing the qiblah. Then jasmine from the jasmine of Paradise is brought, and they ascend from him, leaving him and the Quran. The Quran takes the jasmine and places it fresh over his nose, and he inhales it until he is resurrected. The Quran returns to his family and informs him of their news every day and night, caring for him as a compassionate parent cares for his child. If one of his children learns the Quran, it gives him the good news of that. If his descendants are wicked, it supplicates for them for righteousness and acceptance, or as it was mentioned. We do not know this hadith being narrated from the Prophet ﷺ with this wording except from this route. Khalid b. Ma'dan did not hear from Mu'adh, and we mentioned it only because we did not preserve it from the Prophet ﷺ except from this route, and so we mentioned it. The reward of the Quran is what comes, and the evidence for that is that it is narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that the morsel or the piece of bread will come on the Day of Resurrection like Mount Uhud, and only its reward comes. Thus everything of that which is narrated from the Prophet ﷺ about what will happen in the Hereafter is only the reward.
