✧ "How do you fast?" I said, "I fast and do not break the fast." He said, "Fast and break the fast; fast three days of the month." I said, "Give me more, O Messenger of Allah, for I have strength." He said: I kept bargaining with him and he kept bargaining with me until he said, "Fast the most beloved fast to Allah, Blessed and Exalted, the fast of Dawud; he used to fast one day and break the fast one day." When Abdullah grew old, he said, "If I had ended at what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me, it would be dearer to me than what the sun rises upon, but I do not abandon an obligation that the Messenger of Allah has made obligatory upon me."
