حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ؓ
أَنَّ الْيَهُودَ، سَلَّمُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، وَقَالُوا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ: لَوْلَا يُعَذِّبُنَا اللهُ قَالَ: فَنَزَلَتْ: وَإِذَا جَاءُوكَ حَيَّوْكَ بِمَا لَمْ يُحَيِّكَ بِهِ اللهُ وَيَقُولُونَ فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ لَوْلا يُعَذِّبُنَا اللهُ بِمَا نَقُولُ

✧ The Jews greeted the Prophet ﷺ, and they said to themselves: 'Would that Allah would punish us.' He said: Then the verse was revealed: 'And when they come to you, they greet you with that with which Allah does not greet you, and say within themselves, "Why does Allah not punish us for what we say?"'
