حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْكَرْخِيُّ قَالَ: نَا حَامِدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْبَلْخِيُّ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَظَرَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ، فَقَالَ: هَذَا عَتِيقُ اللهِ مِنَ النَّارِ فَيَوْمَئِذٍ سُمِّيَ عَتِيقٌ، وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُثْمَانَ

✧ The Prophet ﷺ looked at Abu Bakr ؓ and said: "This is 'Atiq Allah min al-nar (the one freed by Allah from the Fire)." From that day he was called 'Atiq, whereas his name before that was 'Abd Allah b. 'Uthman.
