✧ The most truthful speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad ﷺ. The worst of matters are their newly invented ones, and every newly invented matter is misguidance. So adhere to this Quran, for it is the banquet of Allah. Whoever among you is able to take from the banquet of Allah, let him do so. Knowledge is only through learning.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationAbū Isḥāq narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Idrīs al-Awdī and Mūsā b. ʿUqbah narrated it and traced the whole sermon back to the Prophet ﷺ. Shuʿbah, Isrāʾīl and Sharīk narrated it as the words of ʿAbdullāh, except for his saying: "Shall I not inform you what the ʿiḍah is? It is slander (namīmah)", which they traced back to the Prophet ﷺ, and likewise his saying: "A man keeps speaking the truth until he is recorded as truthful (ṣiddīq)." The position of Shuʿbah and those who followed him is more likely to be correct.
