حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْأَعْمَشَ يَرْوِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ:
كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي نَخْلٍ، فَعَرَضَ لَهُ يَهُودُ فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنِ الرُّوحِ، فَوَقَفَ سَاعَةً فَظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ يُوحَى إِلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الرُّوحِ قُلِ الرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّي وَمَا أُوتِيتُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلا قَلِيلا

✧ I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ among palm trees when some Jews confronted him and asked him about the soul. He paused for a while, and we thought that revelation was coming to him. Then he said: 'And they ask you about the soul. Say: The soul is from the command of my Lord, and you have not been given of knowledge except a little.'
