حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ الْقُرَشِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ زِرٍّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ:

كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةٍ فَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَالْمُرْسَلاتِ عُرْفًا فَتَلَقَّيْتُهَا مِنْ فِيهِ، وَإِنَّ فَاهُ رَطْبٌ بِهَا، فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ فَدَخَلَتْ جُحْرًا فَاتَّبَعْنَاهَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا كَمَا وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ

Translation

✧ I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition when “Wal-mursalāti ʿurfan” [Sūrat al-Mursalāt] was revealed to him. I received it from his mouth, and his mouth was moist with it. Then a snake came out and entered a hole, so we pursued it. The Prophet ﷺ said: “You have been spared its evil just as it was spared your evil.”
