✧ Umar surpassed the people in three things: regarding the captives on the day of Badr, he wanted to kill them, so Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: 'Had it not been for a decree from Allah that preceded, you would have been touched...' the verse; and regarding the command of the veil, he ordered the wives of the Prophet to veil themselves, so Zaynab said to him: 'What do you want, O Ibn al-Khattab, while revelation descends in our houses?' So Allah, Blessed and Exalted, revealed: 'And when you ask them for something, ask them from behind a veil'; and the supplication of the Prophet ﷺ: 'O Allah, strengthen Islam with Umar b. al-Khattab.'
