✧ The one who was with the Prophet ﷺ on the night of the jinn said: 'None of us was with him, but we missed the Prophet ﷺ that night, so we searched for him in the mountain passes and valleys and said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has been taken away." We spent the worst night a people ever spent. When morning came, he appeared to us from the direction of Hira, and we said: "O Messenger of Allah, we spent a night the like of which we never spent before." He said: "A caller from the jinn came to me—I think he said—they came, so I went to recite the Quran to them. He took us and showed us their fires. They asked him for provision, and he said: 'Every bone—I think he said—over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned will fall into your hands.'"

machine translationDāwūd b. Abī Hind narrates it from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbdullāh; a group of Kufans and Basrans narrated it from him. The Basrans made the words "and they asked him for provision" to the end of the hadith the statement of al-Shaʿbī, as a mursal report. As for Yaḥyā b. Abī Zāʾidah and others of the Kufans, they inserted it (idrāj) into the hadith of Ibn Masʿūd from the Prophet ﷺ. The correct view is that of those who separated it, for it is the speech of al-Shaʿbī as a mursal report.
