حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ: نَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ قَالَ: نَا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ:

ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ دَعْوَةَ ذِي النُّونِ، قَالَ: وَجَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَشَغَلَهُ فَقَامَ فَاتَّبَعْتُهُ، فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ، فَقَالَ: " أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ " قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ قَالَ: " فَمَهْ ؟ "، قُلْتُ: ذَكَرْتَ دَعْوَةَ ذِي النُّونِ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَشَغَلَكَ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، دَعْوَةُ ذِي النُّونِ إِذْ نَادَى فِي بَطْنِ الْحُوتِ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ، فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يَدْعُوَ بِهَا مُسْلِمٌ فِي شَيْءٍ إِلَّا اسْتُجِيبَ لَهُ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned the supplication of Dhū al-Nūn. He said: A Bedouin came and distracted him, so he got up. I followed him, and he turned to me and said, "Abū Isḥāq?" I said, "Yes." He said, "What is it?" I said, "You mentioned the supplication of Dhū al-Nūn, then a Bedouin came and distracted you." He said, "Yes, the supplication of Dhū al-Nūn when he called out from inside the whale: 'There is no god but You, glory be to You; indeed I was among the wrongdoers.' Indeed, no Muslim supplicates with it for anything except that it is answered for him."
