وَحَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ قَالَ: نَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ:

لَمَّا حَضَرَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ الْوَفَاةُ، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَوْصِنَا، قَالَ: أُوصِيكُمْ بِالسَّابِقِينَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَبِأَبْنَائِهِمْ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ وَبِأَبْنَائِهِمْ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ وَبِأَبْنَائِهِمْ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ إِلَّا تَفْعَلُوا لَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْكُمْ صَرْفٌ وَلَا عَدْلٌ

✧ When death approached the Prophet ﷺ, they said, “O Messenger of God, advise us.” He said, “I enjoin you to honor the earliest forerunners, then their descendants after them, then their descendants after them, then their descendants after them. If you do not do so, neither an obligatory nor a supererogatory deed will be accepted from you.”
