I asked ʿĀʾishah about the Witr prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: how did he pray Witr, at the beginning of the night or at its end? She said: "He did all of that. Sometimes he prayed Witr early, and sometimes he delayed it." I said: "Praise be to Allah who has made leeway in the matter." I said: "How was his recitation at night? Did he recite quietly at night or aloud?" She said: "He did all of that. Sometimes he recited quietly and sometimes aloud." He said: I said: "Praise be to Allah who has made leeway in the matter." I said: "What did he do when in a state of janābah? Did he wash before sleeping, or sleep before washing?" She said: "He did all of that. Sometimes he washed and then slept, and sometimes he performed ablution and then slept." He said: I said: "Praise be to Allah who has made leeway in the matter."
