When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made peace with the polytheists of Quraysh, he wrote a document between them: "This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, has made peace upon." They said: "If we knew that you were the Messenger of Allah, we would not fight you." He said to ʿAlī: "Erase it." But he refused, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ erased it with his own hand and wrote: "This is what Muhammad b. ʿAbdullāh has made peace upon." And they stipulated with him that they would stay for three days, and that they would not enter Mecca with weapons except the sheathed swords.
