That he said to ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar: "O Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, I have seen you do four things that I have not seen any of your companions do." He said: "What are they, O Ibn Jurayj?" He said: "I saw that you touch none of the corners except the two Yemeni ones; and I saw you wear sandals of tanned leather (sibtiyyah); and I saw you dye with yellow; and I saw that when you were in Mecca, the people would raise the talbiyah when they saw the new moon, but you did not raise it until the day of Tarwiyah." ʿAbdullāh said: "As for the corners, I did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ touch any except the two Yemeni ones. As for the sibtiyyah sandals, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wear sandals that have no hair on them, and he would perform ablution while wearing them, so I love to wear them. As for the yellow, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dye with it, so I love to dye with it. As for the talbiyah, I did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raise it until his mount set off with him."
