Saʿīd – meaning Ibn Abī ʿArūbah – was asked about a man who died owing two Ramadans, and he had not been healthy between them. So he informed us from Abū Yazīd al-Madanī: that a man died owing two Ramadans, and he bequeathed that they ask the jurists what would expiate them, and (he said): "Settle my debt on my behalf, and begin with the debt of Allah." Then he mentioned the hadith, and in it he said: So they came to Ibn ʿAbbās, and he said: "He must feed sixty poor people." So they returned to Ibn ʿUmar and informed him, and he said: "He has spoken truly; do likewise."
