The Prophet ﷺ set out for Mecca in the year of the Conquest, in Ramadan, and he fasted until he reached Kurāʿ al-Ghamīm, and the people fasted with him. It was said to him: "O Messenger of God, fasting has become hard on the people." So he called for a cup of water after the afternoon prayer (ʿaṣr) and drank while the people were looking on. Some of the people broke their fast and some continued fasting. Then it reached him that some people had fasted, and he said: "Those are the disobedient."
