We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the early part of the day, when a people came barefoot and naked, wearing striped woollen cloaks, with abayas upon them, or he said: wearing swords. Most of them were from Muḍar, indeed all of them were from Muḍar. I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ change at the sight of their poverty. He went in, then came out, and he ordered Bilāl, who called the iqāmah, and he prayed the Ẓuhr prayer, then gave a sermon. Then he said: "O people, fear your Lord, Who created you from a single soul" up to the end of the verse. Then he said: "O you who believe, fear Allah, and let every soul look to what it has sent forward for tomorrow" the verse. "Let a man give charity from his dinar, from his dirham, from his garment, from his ṣāʿ of wheat, from his ṣāʿ of dates." Until he said: "even with half a date." He said: Then a man from the Anṣār came to him with a pouch that his hand almost could not carry, indeed it could not carry it, and he handed it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then the people followed one after another in giving charity, and I saw in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ two heaps of food and clothing, and the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to shine as if it were gilded. And he said: "Whoever establishes a good practice in Islam will have its reward and the reward of whoever acts upon it after him, without anything being diminished from their rewards. And whoever establishes an evil practice in Islam will bear its burden and the burden of whoever acts upon it after him, without anything being diminished from their burdens."
