Saʿīd b. al-ʿĀṣ sent me to Medina, and I was with Marwān. Abū Hurayrah passed by, and he said: "Some of your hadith, O Abū Hurayrah." So he went on, then he came back, and we said: "Now he will be struck with it." He said: "How did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray over the funeral?" He said: "You created her," or "You created him." Then he mentioned the like of it, except that he said: "You know her secret and her open affairs."

machine translationAl-Jallās al-Sulamī, who is also called Abū al-Jallās, narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. As for Shuʿbah, he narrated it from him and said: from al-Jallās, from ʿUthmān b. Shammās, from Abū Hurayrah, that Marwān passed by him and asked him about the prayer over the funeral. It is said that Shuʿbah, may God have mercy on him, was mistaken, [unlike] Sufyān and all the others. ʿAbd al-Wārith said it differently: he narrated it from Abū al-Jallās, whose name is ʿUqbah b. Sayyār, and he said: ʿAlī b. Shammākh, from Abū Hurayrah. The statement of ʿAbd al-Wārith is more sound. Ziyād b. Mikhrāq also narrated it likewise from ʿUqbah b. Sayyār, who is Abū al-Jallās, from a man, from ʿAlī b. Shammākh, that Marwān b. al-Ḥakam said to Abū Hurayrah. Abū Hāshim al-Rummānī also narrated it, and Ismāʿīl b. Muslim narrated it from him, and there is disagreement about him. Al-Muḥāribī narrated it from Ismāʿīl b. Muslim, from Abū Hāshim al-Rummānī, from a man from the companions of Ibn Ḥaywah, from ʿAbd al-Malik b. Marwān, from Abū Hurayrah. Ibn Fuḍayl contradicted him, from Ismāʿīl b. Muslim, from Abū Hāshim, from Yaḥyā b. ʿAbbād, from Abū Hurayrah. The correct one among these is what ʿAbd al-Wārith said, because he precisely preserved his name and his kunyah and connected his chain.
