I prayed behind Abū al-Nuʿmān, Muḥammad b. al-Faḍl, and he raised his hands when he began the prayer, when he bowed, and when he raised his head from the bowing. So I asked him about that, and he said: I prayed behind Ḥammād b. Zayd, and he raised his hands when he began the prayer, when he bowed, and when he raised his head from the bowing. So I asked him about that, and he said: I prayed behind Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī, and he used to raise his hands when he began the prayer, when he bowed, and when he raised his head from the bowing. So I asked him, and he said: I saw ʿAṭāʾ b. Abī Rabāḥ raising his hands when he began the prayer, when he bowed, and when he raised his head from the bowing. So I asked him, and he said: I prayed behind ʿAbdullāh b. al-Zubayr, and he used to raise his hands when he began the prayer, when he bowed, and when he raised his head from the bowing. So I asked him, and ʿAbdullāh b. al-Zubayr said: I prayed behind Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq ؓ, and he used to raise his hands when he began the prayer, when he bowed, and when he raised his head from the bowing. And Abū Bakr said: I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he used to raise his hands when he began the prayer, when he bowed, and when he raised his head from the bowing.
