أَخْبَرَنَا ) أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، ثَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ:
أَنَّ مُكَاتَبًا قَالَ لِمَوْلَاهُ خُذْ مِنِّي مُكَاتَبَتَكَ قَالَ لَا إِلَّا نُجُومًا ( فَأَتَى عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ ؓ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَدَعَاهُ فَقَالَ خُذْ مُكَاتَبَتَكَ فَقَالَ لَا إِلَّا نُجُومًا ) فَقَالَ لَهُ هَاتِ الْمَالَ فَجَاءَ بِهِ فَكَتَبَ لَهُ عِتْقَهُ، وَقَالَ أَلْقِهِ فِي بَيْتِ الْمَالِ فَأَدْفَعُهُ إِلَيْكَ نُجُومًا فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ أَخَذَهُ
