Al-Ḥajjāj used to delay the prayer, so I asked Jābir b. ʿAbdillāh, and he said: The Prophet ﷺ used to pray the Ẓuhr when the sun had passed its zenith, and the ʿAṣr while the sun was still alive, and the Maghrib when the sun had set, and the ʿIshāʿ: if he saw the people were few, he delayed it, and if he saw they were many, he hastened it, and the Ṣubḥ in the darkness before dawn.
