We were with Naṣr b. ʿAlī al-Jahḍamī one evening when a letter from the ruler arrived, appointing him as judge in Basra. He said: "I will consult myself tonight, and I will tell you tomorrow." So we went to him the next morning, and there was a bier at his door. We said: "What is this?" They said: "Naṣr has died." So we asked his family about him, and they said: "He spent the night praying, and when it was the last part of the night, he prostrated and prolonged it. So we moved him, and found him dead."
