The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out an expedition and appointed Usāmah b. Zayd as commander over them. Some people criticised his appointment. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and said: "If you criticise his appointment, you were already criticising the appointment of his father before. By Allah, he was truly fit for command, and he was among the dearest of people to me, and this one is among the dearest of people to me after him."
