A man from the Anṣār invited him and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, and gave them both wine to drink, before wine was prohibited. Then ʿAlī led them in the Maghrib prayer and recited "Say: O disbelievers", and he mixed it up. So it was revealed: {لا تَقْرَبُوا الصَّلاةَ وَأَنْتُمْ سُكَارَى حَتَّى تَعْلَمُوا مَا تَقُولُونَ}
