The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us out on a military expedition, and we met the enemy, and the Muslims turned and fled in retreat. I was among those who fled. I said to myself: "We will not enter Madinah, for we have returned with the anger of Allah." Then we said: "Let us enter it and take provisions from it." So we entered, and we met the Prophet ﷺ as he was going out to the prayer. We said: "We are the fugitives." He said: "Rather, you are the ones who return to the fight." We said: "O Prophet of Allah, we wanted not to enter Madinah and to take to the sea." He said: "Do not do that, for I am the support of every Muslim."
