machine translationDāwūd b. Qays narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. A group narrated it from Dāwūd b. Qays, from Abū Saʿīd, the freed slave of ʿAbdullāh b. ʿĀmir, from Abū Hurayrah. Al-Thawrī differed from them: al-Firyābī said, from al-Thawrī, from Dāwūd b. Qays, from Saʿīd b. Yasār, from Abū Hurayrah. And al-Ashjaʿī said, from al-Thawrī, from Dāwūd b. Qays, from a man whom he did not name, from Abū Hurayrah. The correct version is from Abū Saʿīd, the freed slave of Ibn ʿĀmir. Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl al-Fārisī narrated to us, Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm al-Ṣūrī narrated to us, al-Firyābī narrated to us, Sufyān narrated to us, from Dāwūd b. Qays, from Saʿīd b. Yasār, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Do not outbid one another deceitfully, do not turn away from one another, do not cut off relations, and let none of you sell over the sale of another. Be servants of God, brothers. Whoever buys a ewe whose udder has been tied up, let him milk it; if he is pleased with its milk, let him keep it, and if he returns it, let him return with it a ṣāʿ of dates. The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim: he does not forsake him and does not despise him. Piety is here, piety is here," and he pointed with his hand to his chest. "It is enough evil for a man that he despise his believing brother."
