When ʿAmmār ؓ was killed, ʿAmr b. Ḥazm got up and went in to ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ and said: "ʿAmmār has been killed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The rebellious group will kill him.'" So ʿAmr got up with his face pale, went in to Muʿāwiyah and said: "ʿAmmār has been killed." Muʿāwiyah said: "ʿAmmār has been killed, so what?" ʿAmr said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'The rebellious group will kill him.'" He said: Muʿāwiyah said: "You have slipped in your urine! Did we kill him? Rather, ʿAlī and his companions killed him. They brought him until they threw him between our spears," or he said, "our swords."
