I said to Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab: "Where should a woman who has been divorced three times observe her waiting period (ʿiddah)?" He said: "She observes it in her house." I said: "Did not the Messenger of Allah ﷺ command Fāṭimah bint Qays to observe her waiting period in the house of Ibn Umm Maktūm?" He said: "That is the woman who caused people trial (fitnah). She was sharp-tongued against her husband's relatives, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded her to observe her waiting period in the house of Ibn Umm Maktūm, who was a blind man."
