"Indeed, Allah has appointed an angel over the womb, who says: 'O my Lord, a drop (nuṭfah)! O my Lord, a clinging clot (ʿalaqah)! O my Lord, a lump of flesh (muḍghah)!' Then when Allah wants to complete its creation, he says: 'O Lord, male or female? Wretched or happy? What is the provision? What is the lifespan?' And so it is written, while it is in its mother's womb."
