A man came seeking a ruling from ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ about a man who divorced his wife three times before he had touched her. ʿAṭāʾ said: So I said: The divorce of a virgin is only one. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr said to me: You are only a storyteller. One divorce makes her irrevocably separate, and three make her unlawful for him until she marries another husband.
