قَالَ:
لَمَّا قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَهْمَ ذَوِي الْقُرْبَى مِنْ خَيْبَرَ عَلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ، مَشَيْتُ أَنَا وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ؓ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَؤُلَاءِ إِخْوَانُكَ بَنُو هَاشِمٍ لَا نُنْكِرُ فَضْلَهُمْ، لِمَكَانِكَ الَّذِي جَعَلَكَ اللهُ بِهِ مِنْهُمْ، أَرَأَيْتَ إِخْوَانَنَا مِنْ بَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ وَتَرَكْتَنَا، وَإِنَّمَا نَحْنُ وَهُمْ مِنْكَ بِمَنْزِلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يُفَارِقُونَا فِي جَاهِلِيَّةٍ وَلَا إِسْلَامٍ، إِنَّمَا بَنُو هَاشِمٍ وَبَنُو الْمُطَّلِبِ شَيْءٌ وَاحِدٌ. ثُمَّ شَبَّكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَيْهِ إِحْدَاهُمَا فِي الْأُخْرَى
