The ʿumrā that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted is only that a man says: "It is for you and for your descendants." But if he says: "It is for you as long as you live," then it returns to its owner.

  • Taḥāwī

machine translationThis hadith, according to those who oppose them, indicates only the words of al-Zuhrī, and ʿAbd al-Razzāq erred in it, making it from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Salamah, from Jābir with those words. The evidence for this is that someone who is a better memorizer than ʿAbd al-Razzāq, namely Ibn al-Mubārak, narrated it from Maʿmar in a way contrary to that.

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationA sound (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith. There is no point in the words of whoever criticized it, because Maʿmar is among the most reliable of people in narrating from Ibn Shihāb and the best of them in transmitting from him.
