By God, O son of my sister, we would look at the new moon, then the new moon, then the new moon, three new moons in two months, and no fire was lit in the houses of the Messenger of God ﷺ. He said: I said: O aunt, what sustained you? She said: The two black things: dates and water, except that the Messenger of God ﷺ had neighbors from among the Anṣār, and they had milk-animals, and they would send some of their milk to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he would give it to us to drink.
